“Homeless Venezuelan refugees that were discovered living under a bridge in Carbondale, have recently moved into the Third Street Center’s gymnasium. Express Yourself

On-Air Radio Program “Express Yourself” feat. Michelle & Mateo of Sweet Root, July 08, 2022

Aguas de Estrellas

We sing this song to honor our Waters and The Sacred Rivers of our Home. Mateo was asked to learn this song & take it to Costa Rica to share. The locals knew it there. As well, Aja & Michelle had previously recorded Aguas on an album of lullabies together. The whole band converged on this same song from each different directions and embraced it together into the Sweet Root Sound.

Oshun

This song was shared to us by Aja, and it was passed down to her from her father who learned it while with the Santeria's in Cuba. The Santeria meaning "Saintly," this song honors the Goddess of Love Oshun & Her infinite wisdom. Brought to Cuba from African during the slave trade, the Sanitarian culture was originally rooted in the Yuruba religion of West Africa in Nigeria. This song can be heard in both cultures, all honoring Oshun the Goddess of Water, Purity, Fertility, & Love.

Mountain & Dio Taka Nade

Joined by The Carbondale Community Choir! From My Mountain is inspired by Peter Rowan's song "I'm Calling You." We arranged it with the traditional Lithuanian Sutartine' Dio Taka Nade, which Michelle learned from her teacher Madi Sato. The Luthianian Sutartine' is a form of traditional polyphonic music performed only by female singers in North East Lithuania.

The Forest

The Forest is an original song about the cycle of Loving something and Letting it Go so that it may grow in well-being and be held in Love again and again. It is about Trusting the world and ourselves to grow in a Loving Way!

The Crystal

These videos are from the vault & previously unreleased. May they speak to you! It's a sweet opportunity to hear the original trio in such an intimate way - and in such tender times. The Crystal is a song written by Mateo Sandate about the sweetness of our home here in the valley.

Om Mani Padme Hum

Om Mani Padme Hum is a mantra that’s near to Sweet Root. We’ve embraced this mantra in meaningful ways thanks to Aja’s lyrical voice. It’s an honor to express our understanding of Om Mani Padme Hum’s essence as Love & Compassion. This song sings to the remembering our True selves and connecting to all Beings with Love and Compassion along the Way.
